The murky waters of data management have always been tricky to navigate, underpinned by the often complex undercurrents of the Data Protection Act, and next year’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Against the backdrop of the current and new legislative framework, the use of social media both inside and outside of the workplace has implications for all of those who lead and manage staff in terms of productivity and liability. Which voice is it your employee uses when creating a social media post? Professional? Personal? Does it matter? Attendance at this session is essential in order to understand the legal obligations your organisation faces regarding data and digital communications, and how those obligations are practically managed on a day to day basis.

Helen Iles of Hugh James will cover all the key issues in an initial presentation, and then will be in conversation with Nick Lewis of Nick Lewis Communications to further debate the ramifications of the new legislation for all those involved with online marketing. There will also be a Q&A Session afterwards, at which you will have the opportunity to enquire on how GDPR will impact on your business.

About Helen Iles of Hugh James Solicitors

Prior to achieving accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in training practice and assuming responsibility for the firm’s internal and external training functions, Helen was a solicitor in the Employment and HR Services Team for six years, advising on a wide range of employment law issues. The success of the training products Helen created and delivered whilst practising as a solicitor revealed her passion for quality, innovative learning and subsequently lead to her appointment as Hugh James’s Head of Training.

Helen designs, delivers and evaluates a comprehensive range of training events on aspects of property, planning, employment, risk and regulation and people management courses, for example. As well as traditional training techniques, we also use award-winning, innovative and interactive training films produced in-house at Hugh James and starring our own employees. All of our courses are tailored to meet an organisation’s specific learning and development needs, ranging from one-to-one tuition to comprehensive seminar programmes and delivered to satisfy your CPD requirements.
